Mountain Academy Celebrates America’s 250th Birthday
Year-Long Theme: The Spirit of ’76
This year, Mountain Academy is honoring a once-in-a-lifetime milestone — the 250th anniversary of the United States— with a year-long educational celebration we’re calling “The Spirit of ’76.”
Through hands-on history, research, art, music, and leadership opportunities, our scholars will explore the world of 1776: the people, faith, values, and everyday life that gave birth to the American experiment in liberty.
Students will step into the shoes of our Founding Fathers and Mothers, learn colonial skills, create historical art, re-create flags from America’s past, and bring history to life for our community.
The highlight of the year will be our Spirit of ’76 Festival in late March, where students will host a public event featuring:
Living history stations with colonial trades and crafts
Hands-on activities for guests of all ages
Patriotic music and historical speeches
An art show showcasing student work
Authentic colonial-inspired foods
A public reading of the Declaration of Independence
A community bonfire and fireworks finale
More than a history lesson, The Spirit of ’76 is about inspiring the next generation to understand, value, and steward the freedoms we enjoy today. Our scholars are not just studying history — they are bringing it to life and sharing it with others.
We invite the community to follow along as we journey through America’s founding story, culminating in a celebration worthy of our nation’s 250th birthday.
